"Members of Franklin's Junto (pronounced who-n-toe, which means together in Spanish) recommended books, shopkeepers, and friends to each other. They fostered self-improvement through discussions on topics related to philosophy, morals, economics, and politics. These discussions were conducted "in the sincere spirit of inquiry after Truth, without fondness for dispute or desire of victory." And they put their humanitarian philosophy into action by establishing the first library in the colonies, organizing a volunteer fire department, and building a school. "
That is what I aim to foster the development of, a society in which members, regardless of hearing status, can come together, whether at a physical or virtual location, to work toward the emancipation and advancement of the Deaf people as a distinct cultural and tribal entity.
We shall compile our own library, and combine our book lists into one central database, in order for us to exchange knowledge in a fluid manner. We shall make a establishment of a school free of any and all traditional constraints to the Development of the Deaf Child. We shall, in the spirit of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Edison, strive to foster the creative innovation that leads to the invention of devices and methodologies that propels the whole society in one direction: forward into the future.
