Gallaudet Aviation History!
The Gallaudet Motor I was astounded that there's a Gallaudet associated with aviation history! I have no idea whether if that Gallaudet is related to our Gallaudet, it should spur someone to follow up on this, it would really be cool if it was indeed associated with our Gallaudet... There is even a Gallaudet Kite at the National Air and Space Museum!
Later, when I did some Googling for some Gallaudet pictures, more airplanes kept on coming up. Another one is a planed called Gallaudet Chummy, from 1917. Check it out here
I did some quick Google research- "Edson F. Gallaudet was a contemporary of the Wright brothers who was investigating aerodynamics during the late 1890s. Probably his greatest contribution to the field was the development of "wing warping" which he applied to kites he was experimenting with in 1898." Link
Interesting, his company, Gallaudet Aircraft Company, was one of the companies that ultimately consolidated into Lockheed. There even was a Gallaudet Aviation School.
Hmm.. Why don't some of us likeminded Deaf pilot wanna-bes try to resurrect the Gallaudet Aviation School?

For
me, this site will be less of a personal diary and daily pulpit,
rather, it will focus strongly on being an e-soapbox for my
political issues of concern, and to highlight the technological
advances that will uniquely benefit us, the Deaf tribe, and
simply a portal for everything else that constitutes the Artist
Formerly Known As An Embryonic Stem Cell, Jason C. Lamberton.

Yes, there's a connection between the Gallaudet Aircraft Corporation and Gallaudet University! Edson F. Gallaudet, the founder (with brother Denison Gallaudet) of the Gallaudet Aircraft Corporation, was a son of Edward Miner Gallaudet, founder and first president of what is now Gallaudet University. Edson was born on campus and spent his early years there before being sent to Hartford, Connecticut for high school.
