My October 20, 2004 Political Manifesto

I admit it. I have left deafpolitics.com to wither in neglect. I got tired of politics after the election. To tell ya the truth, you won't find the same amount of enthusiasm for President Bush that I had when we all were infected with election fever. We drew lines in the sand, and prepared to go to battle over ideologies.

Before you read, I just want to put in this disclaimer: I renounce any permanent and blind affliationship with political parties. We should all just consider ourselves right-wing or left-wing, and allow ourselves to adjust our "ideological identity. We all continue to be educated, whether if we like it or not, and that always adjusts our views as each day goes along. So, I am NOT a Republican, but I probably agree with more Republicans than Democrats, for now. Only if Nancy Pelosi could indulge in some sanity. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is one good Democrat who I like. If he was running against Cheney in 2008, I would probably vote for him.

    Jason Lamberton's Political Manifesto
    October 20, 2004

I grew up Democrat, typical for someone who grew up in a predominantly Democratic demographical area - the Bay Area in California. One example of how liberal that area is, that region was one of the only areas in the entire state that voted to keep Gov. Gray Davis in lieu of Arnold Schwarzenegger, our beloved Governator.

I actually voted for Al Gore in 2000! Sometimes my friends chide me for the fact that I used to bash Bush, but to be frank, September 11 woke me up. I started asking myself why certain people hate us so much to do what they did. I started embracing and devouring history. I could not get my hands on enough books. History Channel became one of my favorite channels, and instead of ESPN, I started watching the various news programs. I learned a lot and had a good feel of the pulse of the world's happenings. I found myself supporting our President. I realized that is a patriotic thing to do, to support our President, and of course to dissent when you honestly disagree on some issues. I forgot all about Democrats and Republicans.

Then, the primaries began. The various Democratic candidates quickly jockeyed for position, with Howard Dean commanding an early lead as a zealously vocal anti-war candidate. That is exactly what propelled him to his quick lead, because the sizable number of anti-war and pacifist citizens' voices finally found a home. I also kept my eye on John Kerry, as I have known about him for quite a while, since the days of Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole. He always had this condescending, vain attitude, and I always had this whiff of him being an opportunist. He had this 'droopy' look whenever he was interviewed on various news shows, with this monotonous attitude. The John Kerry I see today is completely different, a completely energized, electrified, Botoxed and orange-tinted. With all these years of watching him, I cannot really tell you what that man stands for. For various politicians, such as Gingrich, Dole, etc, I could tell you what I really thought their true stances were. As the campaign fired up, I saw him literally transform. It made me sick. I really hoped that some other candidate would ultimately become the nominee, such as Wesley Clark, John Edwards, or Joe Lieberman, but no, it had to be Kerry! I really believe that these other candidates gave the Americans a real, viable choice in opposition to George Bush. John Kerry is just a great unknown, with serious charges already harming his credibility. When I weigh Bush vs. Kerry, Kerry has no real weight that can really tip the scales away from Bush, with the great weight of incumbency already on Bush's side. Realistically, Bush's Big Picture is not so bad, and the Democrats have no credibility when they accuse Bush of being a liar, they need to show that they are more truthful first.

The Democrats' collective bloody howls for the skin of President Bush and their baseless accusations, it is a whole mess that the Dean Democrats got the Democratic party into. It became an embarrassment. I started actually learning what Republicans really stood for. It was not hard for me to update my voter registration to a Republican. It just made sense. Republicans are staunchly capitalistic.

Capitalism is what is motivating me to create the technologies that will propel the Deaf onto the next level. I am starting with educational software for the Deaf because that has the most purpose, to nurture our children. The education system is a failed one. It has worked under neither Democrat nor Republican administrations, so fk the Democrats and Republicans, we have to keep the fate of Deaf Education in our hands. I will not be pompous here, but I do sincerely hope that some significant revenues will eventually be seen, because I assure you, if any financial windfall comes, which is the driving force of capitalism, endowments will be made to ensure the successful development of Deaf children all over, regardless of being born to Deaf or hearing parents. That is probably the only way to fight the proliferation of the forcible cochlear implanting of innocent children. Significant amounts of money have to be put up to create a counterbalance to the Alexander Graham Bell Society, to be able to "purchase" TV commercials showing the pitfalls of CI's.

There can be no more powerful medium to TELL and SHOW every household in America, and ultimately, the world, that the Deaf know what's the best for their education and the future. The commercial could say "All parents, desperate to find a solution for your hearing-impaired, er, Deaf kid? Call 1-800-ASL-SIGN."

Commercials cost lots of money, and if I happen to make a lot of money as a result of my inventions, I promise you, I will put up the money necessary to do something like that whenever it is possible to do so.

That is the Republican way of thinking. But, I will continue doing this regardless of who wins. [alas, Bush won] It is not that Democrats will prevent me from doing so, but Republicans inspire me to do so.

    The Discriminating Airlines.

The airlines refuse to discriminate against Middle Easterners. Political correctness trumps national security, especially when it comes to the security checkpoints. Of course, I understand. If I was named Abdullah, and I wore both a full beard and a red checkered kaffiyeh, I would definitely hate it if I was given a body cavity search every time I flew to Pakistan to visit my uncle Osama with a couple layover days in Londonistan visiting my friends at the mosque to brush up on my Koranic studies. 90% of Muslims are not terrorists. Naturally, it ain't fair if we discriminate against Middle Easterners.

But, why discriminate against deaf people, not at the security checkpoints, but inflight? Inflight discrimination! It is blatant discrimination, audism, whatever you want to call it, when the airlines refuse to enable captioned in-flight entertainment. Yes, it costs money, but the technological solutions abound. Not all that much money, really.

Ridor had something to say about this in his What Airlines Does The Best -- Discrimination! post. Check it out. That yet again compelled me to utilize the sword of my pen, er, keyboard in his comments page. Here's what I said:

A couple decades ago, it was THE LAW that blacks had to pay taxes and pass literacy tests in order to VOTE.

Many blacks accepted it as fact, because it was the law. But, a few decided to fight back.

We cannot simply allow JetBlue and the other airlines blatantly disregard the utter lack of equal access.

When the safety video comes on before all jetblue flights, I always seethe because it's captioned!!! VERY hypocritical on the part of JetBlue! That applirs to all other airlines that show captioned safety videos then go on to show uncaptioned movies.

JetBlue has been the #1 ranked domestic airline the plast 3 years, I believe. It is time to hold them up to their reputation as customer-oriented.

I checked their website, and their CEO, David Neeleman was quoted saying "When we started JetBlue more than four years ago, we set out to bring humanity back to air travel and to make flying more enjoyable."

Bring humanity back to air travel??? Right now, to me, JetBlue is crock-full of cowdung.

Laws are not necessarily mandatory for the manifestation of humanity. We don't have to change the law to be humane. JUST DO IT, FOR GOD'S SAKE! BE HUMANE!

It must have been torture for intelligent blacks (Frederick Douglass, George Washington Carver, and so on) to be denied access to all good things- libraries, restaurants, etc, while watching ignorant, uneducated whites unappreciably accessing these things. As it is, it is torture to endure a 6-hour flight, totally bored (with eyes too fatigued to comfortably read a book) while the person sitting next to me and every other person in the plane is watching whatever they want on TV. Salt is rubbed in the wound when I see someone laughing from something funny on TV. The History and Discovery channels are my absolute favorites. I watch them ALL the time at home. and it is absolute torture to suffer through a cross-country nonstop flight where I have access to these channels without captions. Animal Channel for 6 hours is quite too much when you have plenty of other non-choices.

If the hearing people REALLY want us to be assimilated with the general population, then this just doesn't help their cause at all.

A extended comment I made on Ridor's blog

Ridor broached the topic of captioning, or the lack thereof, in in-flight movies aboard planes on his blog. That stirred up enough anger in my gut that I made a long comment in regard to his 8/25/05 tidbits post. What did Ridor say to set me off?

Don't You Hate It When ... : A friend of mine from California told me that when she flew to San Jose from Maui, Hawai'i, she watched a film on the plane which featured our friend, Ty Giordano in A Lot Like Love. She was furious that the film was not captioned. She attempted to ask the flight attendant who came up with lame excuses that they do not have the equipment.

It reminds me of one I dealt with when I flew to Los Angeles, I asked the flight attendant to turn the captions on as I can see where she meddled the box that handles the TV and VCR, know what she said, "But the captions offended fliers, we do not want to offend them. Sorry."

That pissed me off. How dare of her! I rather to crash the plane than to endure the lack of captioned films on long trips. That, having to watch the uncaptioned film, is a form of torture, in my opinion.

    This is what I commented:

SECONDED, about the lack of captioning for in-flight movies. I just flew on JetBlue, and only IF I could watch their in-flight TV with CC! Heck, they got like 30 channels, and I can only watch CNN Headline News, ESPN, or the Animal Channel. They got ABC, NBC, CBS, the History Channel and etcccccc, and I can't even enjoy it! The ADA does not apply to airlines. That doesn't make logical sense! I feel like it's being rubbed in my face when I see their ads that extol the in-flight TVs for each seat, as a way to kill time. Hello???? Even blind people got their in-flight headphones and music.

We should start a concerted, organized campaign to get JetBlue to CC their channels. Or, at least, set aside like 5 seats in every plane that is CC-equipped. After all, they use DirecTV to get the TV channels, so that means they already have the CC signal, so it's just a matter of adding the $5 CC chip.

If they don't listen.... We then seek advice from Osama bin Laden and Khalid Shaikh Mohammed on what to do next. First, the capitalistic method, by giving them an easy solution to the problem. If they don't take the solution, or come up with something that appeases us, we then go on to borrow Islamist tactics to achieve our objectives. Of course, I am not implying that we start killing people or even engage in one iota of violence.

My idea of terrorism is not to blow up JetBlue planes in mid-air over Kansas, but to engage in sound terrorism. Use discreetly-placed loudspeakers that spew disgustingly jarring noises, so the hearing people cannot hear their TVs, and continue that till they enable CCs for their TVs.

Rico tells me that he never has this problem, because on KLM flights, the American movies are subtitled in Dutch, and that is the case in all Dutch movie theaters. Not frickin' fair. And I don't see the hearing Europeans complain about their subtitles.

*PLFFFFTH* TO THE HEARING PEOPLE WHO GIVE A DAMN IF THERE ARE SUBTITLES ON THE SCREEN!

This kind of thing, the hearing people don't REALIZE, pisses Deaf people enough to the point where they start thinking about terrorism, because there is no way to solve this problem, while all the fat CEOs are earning their m-billions. It doesn't take millions to caption stuff!

Here is a follow-up comment that I made after someone said on that blog's comments page that I'm seemingly angry today:

This issue has been a thorn in my side for quite a while. Ridor's comment just happened to have the effect of salt being rubbed into the wound where the thorn is sticking in my side. So, it is not only today that I am angry, when it comes to captioning issues. I am gonna stay angry till the day comes when I can walk in ANY movie theater on a whim and watch ANY movie that happens to be showing, and to be able to enjoy airplane flights as any other hearing person would do.

1950's-era segregration still exists today, in the form of denying us access to captions. It is just like telling a Negro in 1955 that he is not able to take a drink of water out of the ice-cold water fountain, and that he is welcome to take a sip from the dirty warm-water spigot right next to the gleaming techonological gizmo. It was just a matter of simple inconvenience for the racist whites when they had the blacks "dirtying up" their clean, filtered cold-water fountains. Much easier to simply deny them access to the cold-water fountains, yes? Likewise, it is a much easier convenience for the hearing audists to deny us access to subtitles, because it won't "dirty up" their silver screens.

The only difference is that nowadays, they don't put up signs that say "Whites only." They should add a disclaimer before every in-flight movie, or as a label affixed on each JetBlue seat TV that says "This showing is for Hearing people only. Deaf people are not able to watch this show. Enjoy." It makes no difference to the segregration era, WHEN the captioning technology is RIGHT HERE and available for airlines to use.

It would really be cool if we could distribute amongst Deaf people a DirecTV signal-jamming device to bring on board JetBlue flights, and sound-jamming noisemaker devices to bring into all movie theaters that don't give a damn about Deaf people, in order to terrorize those who feel offended by the use of captions. It would essentially be a form of civil disobedience, just like what Rosa Parks and MLK did. Sit-in protests were definitely a big inconvenience for white racists. The only thing inconveniencing them were their bigoted views. Things began to change after Malcolm X and MLK began inspiring black people to stand up for themselves. We need to emulate what they did in order to attain civil equality. Only when they rose up did the whites really start to take them seriously.

Remember, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was a big offense to many whites. Still no excuse. No excuse for hearing people to deny us captions on the basis that it is an inconvenience, not for those who are paying for it, but for those hearing people distracted by subtitles.

    LOL!!!! so funny

If you aren't one of those ones who have a tendency to be faint at heart, please do venture further. This is a free country, and I have warned you.

Now, that we are past the disclaimer, I found this so funny I had to pass this on! You know, laughter releases all kinds of neurochemicals, and that's a good thing for our bodies, and this has been scientifically proven in the form of laughter clubs all over the world, most notably in India.

Check this video out! It is called roofsex. It gives me some ideas....... *evil cackle*

Thanks, Ridor, for enlightening me with this piece of lewd furniture humor!

Vlog003, a sneak preview: Dr. Pepper Bomb

    Vlog #002

Hi, Vlad. I just vlogged for the bi-th time. I am just getting the feel for this, and soon enough, I will start venting and vlogging about anything in particular that might have an attraction to my attention. I do want to explain a bit more about my glove project that I am working on, with its looming August 31 deadline. There are also certain issues that I think is really of concern and/or interest, especially if you are Deaf. Stay tuned!

After you're done viewing, please feel free to view a couple pictures I posted, if you are in any way particular toward photogenic felines.

Oh, by the way, i just realized maybe "vlog" is inapropos short of "video blog." You see, "blog" is derived from "web log." So, the master, Logic, tells us that I should call my next video blog "olog." Maybe it is much more apropos, given that ojo is Spanish for "eye."
